That’s one of the reasons why you’ve decided to opt for the Astrié mill! It’s the ideal choice for producing tasty flour that’s rich in nutrients, vitamins, proteins, minerals and amino acids. You’re looking for an Astrié mill for sale, but it’s clear that they’re in short supply! But why? How can you quickly find one that meets your needs? Let’s find out!

Why are Astrié mills for sale so rare?
There are very few manufacturers of Astrié mills today, and most sell their mills before they have even been made. The Astrié mill is designed to be simple, making it easy to use and maintain. Its long life means that the machine can be kept in good condition, and very few people abandon their mills (are there really any?).
Second-hand stone mills do exist, but ‘Astrié’ type mills are rare. You will find Astrié mills for sale if someone wants to increase their profitability and move up to a larger Astrié mill.
And you’ll be surprised to realise that they are more expensive than a new Astrié mill, for one simple reason, but one that can sometimes make all the difference: the lead time.
With a second-hand mill, there’s no lead time: it’s already made, and all you have to do is go to the seller to pick up your Astrié mill.
A quest fraught with pitfalls?
Unfortunately, manufacturers who don’t offer genuine Astrié mills do exist on the market, which makes your search even more complicated. In fact, it’s sometimes difficult to find a player who fully respects the invention of the Astrié brothers, and this sometimes confuses our customers.
Often, the stone used for grinding is not made from Sidobre granite. Yet it was this stone, and only this stone, that was used by Pierre and André Astrié. There are other types of stone, of course, but we have no way of knowing what they are really used for. It would be a mistake to ignore the raw material used in the grinding wheels. Please be vigilant.
Moulin Astrié for sale: refocusing on a profitable and… human!
Patience is the key to your project. There’s no secret to making an authentic Astrié mill: you have to know how to work wood, stone and metal in the traditional way. This takes time.

This explains our 8-month lead time (although we are tending to reduce it). Not only does it take time to do things right, but even before a mill is finished, it’s already sold.
The mill will depend on your project!
Which cereal do you prefer? Wheat, durum wheat, spelt, rye, buckwheat, soft wheat, chestnuts, maize, buckwheat…?
What type of flour do you want to produce? Wholemeal flour, semi-wholemeal flour, beech flour…
Would you like to produce gluten-free flours?
What daily output do you need to bring your project to fruition?

In short, looking for an Astrié mill for sale that is already in production means taking the risk of choosing a product that will not meet your needs but those for which the mill was made.
If the grinding wheel is too small, you could lose out enormously on yield. Also, is the stone mill you’ve spotted an ‘Astrié’ type mill?
We’ve had a lot of customers who wanted to renovate a forgotten stone flour mill on a farm. Most of the mills weren’t Astrié mills, so the bluteries, sieves, hopper, etc. couldn’t be adapted.
The Astrié mill is a very simple concept that is a coherent whole. Removing a part of one mill to add it to another mill that has been designed for a different purpose or with a different intention will inevitably result in a lower quality of flour or a reduced yield.
If you’re in any doubt, it’s always best to ask us. We know how to answer honestly when you can describe the machine you’re standing in front of.
By opting for a custom-made product, you are also trained in the operation of the Astrié mill and assured of compliance with health and safety standards. Trials and training sessions are carried out with the cereals you want to unroll, so that you know how the mill works down to the smallest detail: you don’t waste any time, you’re productive straight away, which means you can be profitable more quickly.

Building a made-to-measure Astrié mill takes longer, but will be much more profitable for you. By opting for a ready-to-use mill, you run the risk of buying a solution that doesn’t really meet your needs. To make sure your project is properly calibrated, follow our 5-step guide!
