Astreïa’s technical expertise managed by its integrated Design Office

The Astreïa Design Office: an asset from the outset

Our Design Office has been an integral part of our company since its creation in 2015. Our aim in making this strategic choice has always been to focus on innovation and the constant improvement of our products. From the outset, our Design Office has been working to optimise the Astrié brothers’ invention, and to design machines to complement the stone mills.

Located in Péronnas, in the Ain region, the Astreïa Design Office shares the same premises as our workshop, where our craftsmen work. This proximity facilitates the transfer of information between design and production, as well as feedback on possible improvements.

Key dates in the developments carried out by our Design Office

  • 2015 : First developments of Astreïa mills with 50cm grinding wheels
  • December 2018: Development of the Authentique 50cm 220V mill
  • March 2019: Start of development of the Authentique 100cm mill
  • Early 2020: Machinery brought up to electrical and work safety standards
  • October 2020: First presentation of the Ambassadeur mill
  • September 2021: First test of the Astreïa Grain Brush prototype
  • March 2022: Presentation of the new model of our Ambassadeur mill (new design and new functions) at Sirha.

Why did you decide to bring our Design Office in-house?

Having an integrated Design Office is a major asset for Astreïa, but also for you.

Thanks to the skills of our engineers, we can offer you precise, high-performance support. We know our machines inside out, and this expertise is reflected in the way we support you throughout your project, from concept to operation. By being at your side from the outset, we are able to adapt our machines to your specific needs.

As explained above, this Office also encourages continuous innovation. Innovation driven by the research of our teams, by our expertise as the first user, and above all by your invaluable feedback.

Finally, by fully managing the design, development and manufacture of our machines, we have total control over every stage, which translates into unrivalled quality and performance.

The Revolution Mill: the perfect example of our R&D work

Our Revolution stone mill perfectly embodies the expertise and innovation of our Design Office. This mill represents a major advance in the optimisation of Astrié-type mills, with significant improvements that translate into exceptional performance.

After many months of development, here are the main improvements made to this mill:

  • Improved flour throughput: The Revolution mill doubles the flour throughput compared with Astrié mills of the same size, without compromising the extraction rate (80% minimum in a single pass for Bise wheat flour) and without damaging the quality of the flour. So with our Revolution mill, you get a throughput of 60kg/h of bise wheat flour.
  • A new, more precise, more reliable and more ergonomic auger grain dosing system using a potentiometer. The dosing can be recalibrated very precisely at any time in 2 minutes (when changing a batch of grain, changing cereals, calculating a yield or simply carrying out a periodic check).
  • Hopper with transparent display to show grain level and facilitate production management
  • Addition of a photoelectric sensor at the output of the dosing system to ensure grain flow management and provide the security required for mill operation.
  • All stainless steel construction
  • Optimisation of the air circulation under the arch to keep the temperature and humidity levels as low as possible.
  • Better management of humidity levels in the sifting chamber with the installation of a more powerful fan that sucks in hot, humid air to cool the flour instantly, and an automatic cloth cleaning system.
  • A 2 to 3-fold increase in bran extraction capacity thanks to the new sieve: the diameter of the outlet tube has been increased and the internal bran collector has been optimised for the new start.
  • Significant improvement in energy efficiency: our Revolution mill produces 21kg/kWh, or less than 1 cent of electricity per kilogram of flour produced. This energy efficiency translates into significant savings for your business.

The Astreïa Design Office is much more than just a Research and Development department. It’s the heart of our innovation, the place where every idea comes to life and every machine is perfected to meet your specific needs. Thanks to it, we can offer you professional milling solutions of the highest quality, designed with precision and tailored to your requirements.

We are proud of what we have achieved since our creation in 2015, and are determined to continue on this path, optimising our current machines and developing new products. Thank you to all our customers and partners for supporting us on this journey. Please do not hesitate to contact us to find out more about our products and services.
