On the strength of my experience as a farmer, stone flour mill manufacturer and baker, I went through all the stages of applying for finance to be able to equip myself with my first mill.
I’m here to share my humble experience with you, and to give you our brochure. We’ve designed it so that it can answer your questions and so that you can attach it to your finance application.
How to tell the difference between an ‘Astrié Mill’ and any other model
Here are the 3 things that make the Astrié Mill different from all the others:
1. Micrometric adjustment of the distance between grinding wheels
The system invented by the Astrié brothers allows micrometric adjustment of the distance between the grinding wheels. This is what makes the quality and finesse of the grind possible.
2. The quality and fineness of the flour for preserved nutritional qualities
The Astréïa mill, of the Astrié type, produces fine, nutritious flour that is a true reflection of your wheat or cereal. A local flour.
3. A record extraction rate
On any other mill, several passes between the millstones or cylinders are necessary to obtain such a high extraction rate (80% in a single pass).

Explain the technical characteristics of the chosen mill
First of all, you need to be able to explain the product’s technical characteristics clearly. In a few words, you need to be able to tell the difference between a ‘complete’ mill, which includes the mill, the sieve and the sieves, and buying each of these products individually.
Next, you need to know how to explain your choice of millstone size. We’ve filmed a video on ‘How to choose a small or large model of Astrié mill’.
Knowing the options and above all their benefits will be the greatest guarantee of success for your financing application. Choosing automatic extraction, for example, will leave you free to do other things in the meantime. Bagging, for example, will allow you to fill bags automatically and run the mill at night. The advantage is that you can grind flour without stopping the mill, so that you can crush more cereals over 24 hours, giving you a higher tonnage once you have smoothed it out over the week or month.
Think about turning each technical specification into a benefit for your project, your business or the activities you carry out in parallel.
Choose a stone flour mill manufacturer
It’s then important to choose the flour mill manufacturer that’s right for your project. There are many criteria to choose from, but in my opinion these are the most important:
- real and complete respect for André and Pierre Astrié’s invention
- compliance with safety and food standards
- the opportunity to work and talk with the team that makes your mill
- the opportunity to see a mill in operation before you buy (at the manufacturer’s or a customer’s premises)
- the ability of the stone flour mill manufacturer to adapt to your project
- the quality and speed of the after-sales service
- a manufacturer with experience in different trades to understand your expectations and requirements and give you precise advice
- the lead time of the ‘Moulin Astrié’ type flour mill manufacturer for the manufacture and delivery of your mill, as this can and will affect your income from this activity.
